THE BASIC CARE OF BLUE & GOLD MaCAW'S

Common Names:
Blue & Gold Macaw
Latin Name:
Ara ararauna
Adult Size:
35 Inches
Average Life Span:
50 Years
Talking Ability:
Can be coaxed into saying a few words & sounds

Blue & Gold Macaws are large parrots reaching an adult size of 35 inches, native to Central America & Paraguay, they have an average life span of 50 years.

It is always best to acquire a young bird, give it lots of attention and it will quickly become tame. Pet Macaws are renowned for there loudness, and can be taught to talk and imitate sounds with some patience. Macaws are like small children, they need lots of love, attention & toys to stop them getting bored which can lead to feather plucking and screeching. Keeping these parrots in the home can be quiet tricky unless you can also provide them with a purpose built roomy, flight cage.If you let your macaw out of it's cage in the home supervise it well, so as to prevent them from damaging your favorite ornament or furniture.

There diet should be as varied as possible, include premium seed mix, various large nuts, pelleted food, seed mixes and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Our Blueys seem to adore 3/4 mixed fruit & veg to 1/4 seed mix.
A Macaw is a BIG commitment. Lot's of time, patience & love not to mention money is required to care for this large parrot.
